Experience

With my teaching experience and credentials, it is my hope that you will choose me as your tutor. My credentials include two Master's Degrees, one in Special Education and Literacy and the second in Applied Behavioral Analysis and Autism, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Elementary Education. I hold teaching certificates in Florida and in New York in Special education, Literacy, and Elementary Education for grades 1-6. I am an adaptable and versatile educator. I have taught and tutored students kindergarten through college. I have enjoyed the opportunity to teach a diverse group of children, including those with ADD/ADHD, autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, speech impairments, noncompliant behavior, emotional disturbance and learning disabilities. I take each students goals, needs, and interests into account and create effective lesson plans to accommodate them. My greatest capability is facilitating all styles of learners. I develop multisensory lessons to meet the needs of the auditory, visual, tactile, kinesthetic, ELL, below- level, on-level and advance learners. The lessons that I develop are explicit and systematic. Through response to intervention (RTI), I provide high-quality instruction matched to student need(s), using learning rate over time and level of performance to make important decisions in my action plan. Additionally, I have experience in NWEA testing and using the Descartes to enhance, develop, and introduce my instruction. I have been working as a Special Education Teacher in a self-contained classroom for children with a diagnosis of emotional disturbance and oppositional defiance disorder. During my six years in this position, I have been able to teach the students other avenues to dealing with challenges other than resorting to maladaptive behaviors, where they have been able to experience high levels of mainstreaming, which has led them to be declassified out of Special Education. Prior to this, I worked as a Teacher Assistant in a self-contained 8:1:1 classroom for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. I learned a great deal while working as a Teacher Assistant, including the importance of team collaboration, curriculum modification, use of Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS) as a modification for functional communication, and the implementation of individual behavioral plans. Between my prior experience with success in a challenging classroom and my thorough understanding of the needs of my students, this sets me apart from other candidates
